Activities

All camp activities are planned with a goal of teaching skills, building confidence and improving self-esteem.

We achieve this by carefully structuring all of our activities to ensure success. Teaching is done by skilled instructors who break tasks down into manageable chunks and present them in a logical sequence. In this way, we can be sure that our campers will experience success. We acknowledge every accomplishment, and never miss the opportunity to provide positive feedback and recognition.

Our athletic instructors de-emphasise competition, stress cooperation and sportsmanship and model appropriate attitudes and behaviour.

KODIAK ON THE LAND

Camp Kodiak is set on a beautiful 425-acre site just north of the town of Parry Sound. We are surrounded by forests and campers get to enjoy the open air and beauty of the countryside with just enough of their home comforts to feel comfortable and safe. Camp has a huge range of landsports to offer our campers, some of which are shown below. Our program is set up to accommodate all levels of athleticism and skill. Campers are encouraged to try new activities in a safe and secure environment where all successes, great or small, are celebrated.

Our sports program focuses on the virtues of sportsmanship, comraderie, fair play and support. Lessons promote the skills required to participate and enjoy sports at the campers' individual level. At the end of their stay at camp, all campers will return home with awards and certificates that further celebrate their successes at camp.

KODIAK ON THE WATER

Camp Kodiak's waterfront is staffed by a team of experienced and certified lifeguards and swim instructors. It features a daily general swim where campers can cool off in the water, build sandcastles in our digging beach, hangout on the beach, or join a game of volleyball!

Our swimming program focuses on developing skills and building proficiency so that campers are safe and feel confident in the water.

In addition to their professional qualifications, our staff participate in staff training aimed at breaking down the skills and lessons so that our campers can gain as much as possible from each period. While we encourage all campers to participate in swimming, like all activities at Camp, no one is required to participate. Those campers that choose not to swim can still take part in water safety and first aid lessons.

Water World is an adventure playground that is a very popular part of our waterfront! It features a water trampoline, slide, jungle gym, hamster wheel and launch pad. As part of the cabin's rotation, we ensure that every camper has the opportunity climb, jump, and see how high they can launch or be launched! At this activity, campers must wear a lifejacket and are carefully supervised by a lifeguard so swim testing is not required to join in the fun!

Our waterfront director and staff's main goal is for all of our campers to have fun in a safe environment.

KODIAK CREATIVE ARTS

At Camp Kodiak we explore all areas of the arts with activities that range from stained glass and pottery to photography and cartooning. These activities are designed to spark an interest in our campers and explore their creative potential.

We also feature an extensive Drama and Theatre program. During our July session all campers are involved in a camp-wide musical. Campers can audition for speaking roles, but all campers are included as part of their cabin group. We present the finished product to family and guests on Visitor's Day at the end of the session.

Our Drama classes include games and improv activities that push our campers to work on expressing themselves verbally and physically. In all activities we strive to increase a camper's self-confidence.
